Definitions of Services
- A system of safe, sensible, mind-body exercises that increase core strength, flexibilty, spine mobility, and muscular balance. Based on the work of Joseph H. Pilates , the exercises emphasize the principles of proper breathing, centering of the body, coordination of muscular engagements, precision of movements, motion control, and fluidity for functional efficiency. This will transform how one feels, looks and performs, develping strong, sleek muscles without bulk. A great technique for recovery from injury, childbirth, or illness, restoring confidence in one's well-being, and a wonderful tool for athletic cross-training.
Pilates
Strain/Counterstrain:
A gentle, indirect technique to reduce muscle tension, restoring normal joint mechanics. Based on the work of J.T. Jones, D.O.Muscle Energy Technique:
Utilizing gentle, precise muscle contractions to work directly through dysfunctional neuro/mechanical patterns. Based on the work of F.L. Mitchell, Sr., D.O.-
Functional Indirect Technique:
A gentle process of unwinding through sequential releases of restrictive muscle tension barriers. Based on the work of G.A. Laughlin, D.O. Cranio-sacral Technique:
This approach gently restores the rhythm of the cranio-sacral system, an integral component to balancing the musculo-skeletal system and to re-establishing the synergy of all the systems in the body. Based on the works of E. Stiles, D.O. & J.E. Upledger, D.O. /li>-
Visceral Manipulation:
Light, specific touch to encourage normal mobility, tone, and inherent tissue motion of the viscera. Based on the work of J-P Baral, D.O. and P. Mercier, D.O.
Osteopathic Manual Therapies
Postural Restoration:
a series of exercises to improve flexibility and strengthen core muscles to allow the body to restore proper postural alignment.Proprioceptive Training:
balance exercises, often progressing to plyometrics, to restore/improve proprioception, the brain's ability to know the relationship of the body to its environment and to respond appropriately to changes. Very important component of injury/illness rehabillitation, but also a fun tool for athletic cross-training.
Exercise Therapies
hands-on therapeutic exercises to increase flexibility, reduce muscle tension, and/or improve strength. Usually done to rehabilitate from an injury or illness.
- Thorough history and evaluation performed to provide an assessment of an acute or a chonic injury/condition. We try to answer the question: "What do I do?!" Perhaps some therapy is warranted; a home care program specific to the problem is always assigned; and/or appropriate refferal may be necessary for a definitive diagnosis.
Injury Assessment
- Initially, this process will begin with an interview to collect a history and description of specific health concerns.
- A nutritional assessment will reflect problematic dietary trends that could be contributing to the health concerns. This will include a jounal of daily food/fluid intake with descriptions of well-being throughout each day.
- A functional evaluation is then performed that includes assessment of physical indicators of nutritional deficiencies. This will help identify factors that are contributing to the health concerns.
- Results of any other health evaluations will also be considered, and usually invaluable.
- Once priorities are nailed down, dietary recommendations are made to address these nutritional needs.
- Referral to appropriate practitioner will be offered when it is recognized that further examination is necessary.
